Things we need to know as a SON from a FATHER

The following are twelve significant truths fathers (or father figure) need to know, understand, and live out with their sons. We will always be a son and most of us will always be a father. These are foundational truths fathers must continue to learn, grow in, and dispense, using different forms in the developmental stages of a son’s life from birth to death.

The Psychology Behind Strained Father Son Relationships

#1 Sons need a father who will challenge them and teach them the importance of discipline, self-control, responsibility, sacrifice, selflessness, the value of hard work, owning their mistakes, learning to apologize, taking risks, to stand up against injustices, and to critically think, thus forging these brave ass virtues in them.

#2 Sons need a father (or a father figure) to share their feelings, to truly be known and accepted and be understood.

#3 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will validate and affirm them in their maleness.

#4 Sons need a father (or a father figure) who will protect them, as well as stand up and be shoulder-to -shoulder with them during the adversities of life.

#5 Sons need a father (or a father figure) who will love them unconditionally, love how they were uniquely designed and created and be proud of who their son is.

#6 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will counsel them wisely, giving advice and guidance in the different stages of their masculine journey.

#7 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will support them, believe in them, and join them in their endeavors.

#8 Sons need a father (or father figure) who demonstrates courage and strength in overcoming fear through being vulnerable and authentic in their personal and professional life.

#9 Sons need a father (or a father figure) who will own his shit storms, apologizes, asks for forgiveness, and changes what he did wrong.

#10 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will pursue them when they push back, resist, reject, or even hate them. They always leave the door open.

#11 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will exemplify how women should be treated with respect and dignity and given every opportunity to succeed.

#12 Sons need a father (or father figure) who will courageously stand up against injustice.
